Consultations
Clients come to us
in a variety of ways. Many are referred to us by
satisfied past or existing clients and from other professionals,
including other lawyers and by accountants. We welcome
all inquiries by call and email. We try to respond immediately
and within 24 hours whenever possible. Initial consultations
are handled by phone and are always free. There is no risk and
no obligation.
We do not accept
every case from every caller. We strive to accept only those
cases from clients that we believe we can actually help.
The free initial telephone consult helps us determine what type of
legal problem a client has and to consider some possible alternatives
and strategies. It's an easy confidential no-risk way for our
caller and for us to determine whether we can help. Clients can
get answers and ideas from the convenience of their home. We
often talk to clients in the evening and on weekends. If it
appears that we can assist a client, the next step is to
schedule an appointment an office consultation. If possible, we
will make a recommendation and propose our scope of services and
fee. A formal retainer agreement is signed at the first office
meeting detailing the work and services to be done and the agreed fee arrangement.
Rates and Fee Arrangements
Our fees are
exceptionally reasonable for a midtown Manhattan law firm of our
caliper and are determined on a case by case basis. We
believe that those firms that offer a one size fits all service
do a disservice to their clients. While clients may have
similar concerns, each one is special and will need personal
attention. We try to set a reasonable but very competitive fee
that makes sense for the goals the client will hope to achieve.
We do not believe in "throwing good money after bad" and if
the cost of legal services exceeds the anticipated benefits, we will
tell you that at the start. We will always be
"straight" with you. We want to help you accomplish
the result you desire but we also want you to feel that it was worth
it. Quality and value matter a lot.
We offer a variety of
flexible fee programs, including hourly billing, discounted or capped
hourly rates for qualified clients, low flat rates, contingency fees
(for qualified cases), and installment plans. We
have several alternatives which we usually discuss with clients
during their initial call
In many cases,
clients end up effectively paying nothing for legal services because
of the results we obtain. We save our bankruptcy clients far
more money than the cost of their case, so, in effect, the case costs
them nothing in the end. And, of course, we also help many of
them save their family home, investment property or business.
In many cases, we help our litigation clients recover so much that
the actual cost of legal services becomes neglible or is completely
offset by the recovery. In some cases, courts can award legal
fees to the victor, so some litigation clients fully recover all of
the fees expended. Similarly, most of our refinancing clients
can pay their entire legal fee out of their loan proceeds at the
closing, with no advance payment at all.
We also do not have
any billing quota. Many law firms have secret billing quotas -
they actually focus on the number of hours billed by associates,
instead of the results obtained. In those firms, quantity
matters more than quality. They become a factory filled with
lawyers and paralegals who are little more than billing machines, and
often unhappy ones at that. We very strongly reject that type
of firm and lifestyle. We have no hidden agendas. We work
hard for our clients. We also believe in a balanced life. It's
that simple. When you have a comfortable work atmosphere and a
balanced life, lawyers, paralegals and clients are all much happier
and can focus on what matters most - solving the problem or winning
the case. |
